Several Catholic Churches, Including Ss. Peter and Paul, To Close

Kingston, ON

The Archdiocese of Kingston has announced that several Catholic churches in the Kingston area will be closing, including Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Selby.

The decision to close the churches was made after a period of consultation with the parishes involved. The archdiocese says that the closures are necessary due to declining attendance and a shortage of priests.

Ss. Peter and Paul Church

Ss. Peter and Paul Church was built in 1847 and is one of the oldest churches in the Kingston area. The church has been a vital part of the Selby community for many years, but attendance has declined in recent years.

The archdiocese says that the decision to close Ss. Peter and Paul Church was not made lightly. The archdiocese worked with the parish to explore all options, but it was determined that closing the church was the best course of action.

The archdiocese says that it will continue to provide pastoral care to the people of Selby. The archdiocese will also work with the community to find a new use for the Ss. Peter and Paul Church building.

Other Churches Closing

In addition to Ss. Peter and Paul Church, the archdiocese is also closing the following churches:

  • St. Mary's Church in Odessa
  • St. Patrick's Church in Harrowsmith
  • St. Joseph's Church in Roslin

The archdiocese says that the closures of these churches will allow the archdiocese to focus its resources on the remaining parishes in the Kingston area.

The archdiocese says that it is committed to providing pastoral care to all Catholics in the Kingston area. The archdiocese will continue to work with the parishes to ensure that the needs of the faithful are met.
